This week, the Fast and the Furious franchise will replenish with the first spin-off — Hobbs and Shaw with Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statem, who returned to the roles of Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw. The franchise has grown to nine films, but when it comes to the extreme for which the series is famous, problems begin — what else to throw out? In the last part, we saw some of the craziest stunts that even Transformers circumvented: hundreds of smart cars wreaking havoc in the city and a submarine breaking ice in the weather behind the House and its friends. Where to go after that?
Chris Morgan wrote a screenplay for every movie in the series, starting with Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift in 2006. He is well aware of the need to push boundaries. In an interview with Polygon, he explained that there are rules that he does not want to break when it comes to the shocking nature of his tricks.
I have one internal regulator for all these things. I am a big fan of action movies and I love physics. I think that the limitation for me is that we are prone to physics and will never go beyond it. How to determine this? For me, while you watch a movie and see a sequence of actions and nothing violates it, everything is wonderful. But as soon as something that is not subject to the laws of physics, impossible or absurd, happens, it destroys the faith of the audience. After that, you can no longer enjoy the movie. You will not give a damn about the characters because of this error.
Morgan spoke about the scene from "Fast and the Furious 6", where Khan (Son Kang) and Giselle (Gal Gadot) chasing a huge plane on the runway.
Several mathematicians tried to calculate the length that the runway had to have in order to make this trick possible. According to their estimates, the length of the runway was to be about 40 kilometers. To this, Morgan answered:
This is a scene that is fun to think about on the way home. However, during the scene itself, people thought: do they really want to "bring down" this plane? Are they worried about Khan, Giselle, and everyone else? I think yes. This means that the sitzatsiya is quite suitable for the scene. We are serious about this. I would say that nothing is forbidden if we can do everything in the right way, keeping the audience involved.
In this regard, the question arises: is it possible to count on the "Fast and the Furious" in space?
Not excluded! After all, everything is possible. It should be cool, it should be of high quality. And this is the most important thing.
